Jalandhar: The Department of Zoology organized a comprehensive awareness campaign and interactive talk to commemorate World Cancer Day under the flagship of the Darwin Zoological Society. The event commenced with a symbolic ribbon-pinning activity led by Prof. Pooja Sharma, during which students pinned various coloured ribbons on teaching and non-teaching staff members to represent the diverse fight against different forms of cancer. Following this heartfelt opening, the audience was formally welcomed by Prof. Pooja Sharma, President of the Darwin Society, who anchored the proceedings and introduced the day's agenda.
The highlight of the program was an engaging session by the guest speaker, Dr. Arun Sharma, a renowned consultant surgical oncologist from Fortis Hospital, Jalandhar. Dr. Sharma was warmly received by Principal Dr. Anoop Kumar, who presented him with a token of gratitude for his contribution to the cause. During his talk, Dr. Sharma provided deep insights into the various types of cancers and their primary causes, emphasizing that the burden of this deadly disease can be significantly reduced through proactive lifestyle modifications and dietary changes.
The initiative proved to be highly educational for the students, who participated in a vibrant interactive session to clarify myths and gain expert knowledge on the subject. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Punit Puri, Head of Department and overall DBT Coordinator. The program was well-attended by faculty members including Dr. Deepak Wadhawan, Dr. Rishi Kumar, Dr. Kapila Mahajan, Dr. Abhinay Thakur, Dr. Pankaj Bagga, Dr. Seema Sharma, Dr. Kirandeep Kaur, Prof. Suruchi Katla, and Dr. Komal Narang, all of whom stood in support of the global call to "Close the Care Gap." Dr Santosh Sharma and Mr Darshan also attended the event.
