Jalandhar: The Competitive Cell of DAV College Jalandhar organized an insightful and interactive lecture session on “UPSC Civil Services Examination: Pattern, Syllabus and Resources” under the able guidance and stewardship of Principal Dr. Anoop Kumar. The programme commenced on an auspicious note with the rendition of the DAV GAAN, setting a tone of academic enthusiasm and institutional pride. The stage was gracefully conducted by Dr. Manpreet Kaur, who also extended a warm welcome to the distinguished guests and participants.
The resource person for the session, Dr. Dinesh Arora, Associate Professor and Head, PG Department of Political Science delivered a comprehensive lecture on the structure and preparation strategy for the UPSC Civil Services Examination. He elaborated on the three-tier examination process- Preliminary, Mains, and Interview; while emphasizing clarity of concepts, disciplined study routines, and the importance of regular engagement with current affairs.
Dr. Arora also provided a detailed overview of the syllabus, highlighting its interdisciplinary nature, and guided students on the effective use of standard resources such as NCERT books, newspapers, and credible online platforms. His practical insights into answer writing, time management, and optional subject selection proved immensely beneficial for aspirants.
In his address, Principal Dr. Anoop Kumar encouraged the students to set high goals and work diligently towards achieving them. He reminded them with pride that many students of the college have successfully cleared the prestigious UPSC Civil Services Examination in the past. He further remarked that the primary objective of organizing this session was to revive the Competitive Cell with renewed vigour after a long gap and to provide sustained guidance to aspirants.
The session was highly interactive, with students actively participating and seeking answers to their queries, making the programme engaging and impactful. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Tnu Mahajan, Incharge Competitive Cell, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to the resource person, the Principal, and all participants for making the event a grand success. Prof. Tnu Mahajan acknowledged the efforts of the members of the organizing committee - Dr. Varun, Dr. Manpreet, Dr. Hina, Dr. Rahul and Prof. Jasmeen.
