Jalandhar: In a vibrant confluence of academic rigor and environmental stewardship, a 27-member delegation from the Post Graduate Department of Zoology, DAV College, Jalandhar, embarked on an immersive educational expedition to the prestigious Pong Dam Bird Festival. The troupe, consisting of 24 enthusiastic students and distinguished faculty members Dr. Deepak Wadhawan, Dr. Kapila Mahajan, and Dr. Abhinay Thakur, actively participated in the annual festivities nestled within the serene wetlands of Himachal Pradesh.
The festival served as a living laboratory where students transcended traditional classroom boundaries. Under the expert tutelage of the Forest Department, the group engaged in several high-level technical sessions, Students were trained in the meticulous art of identifying diverse migratory species, honing their observational skills to contribute to the official water bird census.
Ornithological Technicalities: Experts provided a rare, hands-on demonstration of the sophisticated processes involved in capturing and ringing migratory birds—essential techniques for tracking global population trends. The scholars were enlightened on the phenomenal biological feat of migration, exploring the complex trans-continental routes taken by these "winged visitors" arriving from the far northern reaches of the globe. The successful execution of this field study drew high praise from the college administration. Principal Dr. Anoop Kumar extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Head of the Department and the accompanying faculty members.
"Such experiential learning initiatives are paramount in fostering a deep-seated commitment to biodiversity conservation. I applaud the Zoology Department for providing our students with exposure to real-world ecological research," remarked Dr. Kumar. This excursion reinforces DAV College's dedication to producing well-rounded scientists equipped with both theoretical depth and practical expertise in the field of wildlife biology.
