Jalandhar : DAV College Jalandhar under the aegis of the Department of Psychology, in collaboration with the Departments of Political Science, Sociology, and Philosophy, organized an insightful Expert Talk on the occasion of World Health Day. The event was conducted under the visionary leadership and guidance of Principal Dr. Anoop Kumar. The theme of the talk was “Rewire Your Mind: From Stress to Success”, aiming to create awareness among students about the importance of mental health and psychological well-being. Ms. Tanisha Mahendru, a Counselling Psychologist from Manjeet Saini Hospital, Jalandhar was the Keynote Speaker.
As per the traditions of the College the programme commenced with the recitation of DAV Gaan. Ms. Prerna Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, delivered the introductory address and briefly highlighted the significance of observing World Health Day with a focus on mental health awareness among youth. She stated that health is not merely the absence of illness, but a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being. While introducing the Keynote Speaker, she said that Ms. Tanisha Mahendru holds a Master of Vocation (M.Voc) in Mental Health Counselling and has professional experience as a Special Educator and Psychologist at Zentree Educational Society, where she worked closely with children with special needs and designed behaviour intervention programs. She has also completed internships at Civil Hospital and Neil Hospital and holds certification as a CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) Practitioner.
Dr. Kunwar Rajeev, Senior Vice-Principal delivered the inaugural address and expressed his sincere gratitude to the Keynote Speaker Ms. Tanisha Mahendru for sparing her valuable time to deliver the lecture. In his address, he highlighted the importance of maintaining a healthy mind and emphasized the immense power of the human mind in shaping one’s life and well-being. He encouraged students to actively participate in such programmes and to interact with the resource person to clarify their queries and deepen their understanding. He also congratulated the Departments of Psychology, Political Science, Sociology and Philosophy for organizing such a meaningful and important programme. Ms. Tanisha Mahendru, delivered the Keynote Address on the theme “Rewire Your Mind: From Stress to Success.” During her expert talk, she elaborated on the concepts of stress, anxiety, and emotional regulation from a psychological perspective. She emphasized how stress can be managed effectively through self- awareness, cognitive restructuring, and positive coping mechanisms. The session included engaging activities, reflective exercises, and positive affirmations, which encouraged students to explore their thoughts, emotions, and future aspirations. Her interactive approach made the session highly engaging and relatable for the students.
An interactive session followed the talk, where students actively participated by sharing their experiences and asking questions related to mental health, stress management, and personal growth. The speaker provided practical strategies to maintain emotional balance and cultivate a positive mindset in daily life.
Dr. Dinesh Arora, Head, Department of Political Science proposed the vote of thanks. He expressed his sincere gratitude to the keynote speaker for sparing her valuable time to enlighten the students and staff on the very important theme of mental health on the occasion of World Health Day. He also recorded his heartfelt thanks to the college authorities, especially the Principal, Vice-Principals, Registrar, and Deputy Registrar, for providing all kinds of support in organizing the programme. Furthermore, he extended his appreciation to the members of the Departments of Psychology, Political Science, Sociology, and Philosophy for their cooperation. He also thanked the students for their active and enthusiastic participation, which contributed to the success of the event.
On this occasion Prof. Sonika Dania, Vice Principal, Prof. Ashok Kapoor, Registrar, Prof. Sukhdev Singh Randhawa Head, Department of Punjab, Dr. Rajan Sharma, Prof Pankaj Gupta (PRO), Dr. Raj Kumar, Prof. Kuldeep Khullar, Dr. Isha, Prof. Amritpal Singh, Prof. Abhijeet Singh were also present. The programme was conducted by Ms. Muskan Sharma, and Ms. Rashmi Sharma students of BA final year. The event ended with the National Anthem. The expert talk proved to be a highly enriching and thought provoking experience for the students, reinforcing the importance of mental well-being and inspiring them to adopt healthier psychological habits in their academic and personal lives.
